April 2015

Dear *|FNAME|*,

Welcome to our April newsletter . Thank you for all your support in voting on the Image beauty awards - Izabela won the award for the Best nail Technician – she is thrilled and we are all delighted for her – she deserves it.

Skin health comes from the inside out and is especially important when your skin has to combatIzabela both cold and windy weather, hot sunshine and central heating. “Free radicals” are part and parcel of being alive and there’s nothing we can do to stop them. They are, in a nutshell, the by-product of our body’s cells breathing. However, we don’t want them to linger, causing damage to neighbouring cells.

Certain nutrients, called antioxidants, can neutralise free radicals, and one of the best is vitamin C. Make sure that your diet is packed with vitamin C-rich, lightly steamed vegetables that retain their nutrient content. Because vitamin C is vital to the creation of collagen – the main protein in our skin and other connective tissue – it can help us to stay younger looking too. Give your vitamin C status a boost by taking 1000mg per day as magnesium ascorbate.

Catherine WaringLikewise externally our skin is exposed to free radical damage which causes collagen damage resulting in wrinkles. Using a topical vitamin C helps to protect the skin – not all topical vitamin C serums are equal – Skinceutical are the originators of antioxidants – they contain a pharmaceutical grade ingredients so have the ability to really change the skin in a very positive way. Skinceutical’s won the award for ‘most innovative skincare brand’ at the recent Image beauty awards. Taking care of the skin around the eye area

The skin around the eye can be 1/10th as thick as the skin on the rest of the face. Due to the lesser amount of oil glands around the eyes, this part of the face is more likely to show premature signs of ageing if it is neglected. The eye area can show everyone your lack of sleep, overindulgence of food and alcohol and sugar. It is therefore necessary to pay special attention to the eye area and treat it diligently and consistently. Why can’t I use my face moisturiser around my eyes?

Men's Skincare

A man’s skin is actually different than a woman’s skin. The layers of skin are thicker, pores are larger and there are more oil glands producing more lubrication for a longer period of time. Even though men have this extra, anti ageing defence in their favour, proper skin care is important to prevent skin ageing. Daily shaving does not have to accompanied by uncomfortable side effects.

Reflexology

Reflexology

Reflexology dates back to the ancient medical traditions of China and Egypt. It is based on the principles of pressure points linked to different organs of the body. Energy flow (Qi) travels through the body via pathways called meridians of which there are 12. The nerve endings that link these organs accumulate in the palm of the hands and the soles of the feet. These are then divided into zones that represent different parts of the body rather like a map.

Lemon & Lavender Epsom salt bath

Ingredients 1 – 2 c. Epsom salts 1/2 c. unpasteurised apple cider vinegar 5 – 10 drops Lavender essential oil 2 Tbsp lemon juice. Preparation Method:

  • In the evening, ideally before bed, begin to prepare your bath;
  • Mix Epsom salts into a quart jar full of very hot water. Stir with a wooden or plastic spoon (not metal) and set aside.
  • Draw a nice hot bath and pour in the lemon juice, apple cider vinegar & a good quality essential oil.
  • Pour contents of quart jar into the tub and mix well with your hands.
  • Schedule yourself at least 40 minutes for this bath: 20 minutes to remove stored toxins, and 20 minutes to absorb the minerals in the water. **You can also rub your skin gently towards your heart, to stimulate the lymphatic system and as an extra boost in eliminating toxins. Note Please avoid Epsom baths if pregnant, or dehydrated. And please be extra cautious when getting out of the tub, as the detoxification effect of the bath may leave you feeling a little light headed. This is also why this bath is best taken before bed. There are two key ingredients found in Epsom salts; 1. Magnesium – A mineral which helps to keep your bodily functions running smoothly, including some of the pathways that lead toxic wastes right out of your beautiful body. This mineral also plays a critical role in improving muscle and nerve function, reducing inflammation, and improving blood flow and oxygenation throughout the body. 2. Sulphate - These are necessary building blocks for healthy joints, skin and nervous system tissue; and the combination of these ingredients help to gently flush those pesky toxins. There are so many great benefits to this detoxifying bath. So grab a good book, a large glass of water and get ready to enjoy yourself.
