Skin Peels- Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are an excellent treatment to treat wrinkles, discoloured skin and scars — usually on the face. They can be done alone or combined with other treatments. This treatment is an excellent introduction to skin rejuvenation. How they works:Using a chemical exfoliant the skin is prepared, an acid-based solution then instigates a process that increases skin cells turnover.Benefits:The benefits of this are that the dead layers of the skin are removed, the underlying cells are turning over at an increased rate which mildly increases collagen production and introduces the skin to a better skin cycle.

Treating your neck!

Protect the skin on your neck! Use SPF daily . Avoid sunburn and excessive sun exposure.  Moisturise your neck skin and décolletage, drink plenty of water, eat a healthy diet filled with antioxidants and vitamins. Treatments .    Profhilo is an injectable hyaluronic acid treatment for skin laxity on the face, neck, or hands, offering intense hydration and tighter, more luminous skin. Some call it the injectable skin glow! This anti-ageing treatment contains higher concentrations of hyaluronic acid than dermal fillers, with 64mg of HA per injection. Unlike a dermal filler treatment, Profhilo does not give volume, it instead provides a slow release of hyaluronic acid below the skin surface to hydrate and rejuvenate.   This “super skin booster” not only hydrates your skin from the inside out, getting rid of any crepey-ness, it increases your collagen and elastin production like nothing else I know, actually remodelling your skin, making it look far firmer. Profhilo has the following unique abilities: It stimulates your body to produce 4 types of collagen (good collagen, not scar collagen) It enhances stem cell reproduction meaning your skin rejuvenates It restores both skin and fat layers to their natural state (it doesn’t enhance them, so do not worry, you won’t look puffed up!) It can treat the face, neck, lip lines, arms, decolletage, hands and tummies.    SkinCeuticals Tripeptide-R Retinol. A daily retinol cream specifically formulated exclusively for the neck, SkinCeuticals Tripeptide-R Retinol Neck Repair Cream improves the appearance of wrinkles, loss of firmness, uneven skin tone and crepiness.

Free radicals- what are they ?

Free radicals- what are they ?

Free radicals  are naturally-occurring, unstable and highly reactive molecules that latch onto and steal electrons, such as healthy cells, ultimately causing a breakdown in DNA of the skin. External factors trigger and increase their production. More often than not, the damaged cells are those responsible for the natural production of collagen, elastic and hyaluronic acid—all of which form skin’s structure and firmness—and the depletion of this can lead to signs of ageing like fine lines, sagging, dullness and even pigmentation. Just think of a cut apple that’s been left out in the air—that wrinkled discolouration is a result of oxidation caused by free radicals. And the same effects can happen to our skin.

Trans epidermal Water Loss – What is it and How to Stop It

If you are struggling with dehydrated or dry skin, one of the causes may be trans epidermal water loss (TEWL). You're losing water and moisture from your skin. TEWL can lead to a variety of dry skin conditions — including severe dehydration — but there are ways that you can keep your skin hydrated or prevent dryness from occurring in the first place. What Is Trans epidermal Water Loss? To understand TEWL, let's revisit the layers of our skin. Our skin is made up of three primary layers, the outermost being the epidermis (aka what you look at in the mirror). The dermis is the middle layer, and the hypodermis is the innermost layer. TEWL occurs when water passes from the dermis through the epidermis and evaporates through the skin barrier.

Glycolic acid - The Glow Getter.

Glycolic acid - The Glow Getter.

Glycolic acid — you’ve probably seen it on the back of multiple skin-care cleansers, serums, and gels you have in your collection. We can’t seem to escape the ingredient, and there’s a good reason why, glycolic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) and works as a mild exfoliant. It’s a small molecule, and this is important because it helps it to penetrate deeper into the skin and work more effectively. Like other acids, it works to brighten the skin’s appearance by removing dead skin layers that live on top. While all skin types can use glycolic acid, it may work best on oily and acne-prone skin. It’s harder to tolerate when you have dry or sensitive skin. If that sounds like you, stick to products that contain it in lower percentages or reduce the frequency with which you use it. On the flip side, glycolic acid is highly effective for evening out your skin tone and altering discoloration, which is why those with acne-prone skin generally respond well to it.

Sleep and skin health.

Sleep and skin health.

Good quality, restorative sleep is also crucial for the nightly cellular repair, regeneration and immune function. Every night, we go through repeated cycles of two distinctly different sleep phases: Rapid Eye Movement (REM, when the most active dreaming happens) and non-REM sleep (NREM, the deeper sleep). During NREM, blood flow is directed from our brain and body core, more towards the body’s periphery including the skin. Thus, a restorative hormone flow is established, and cellular repair is enhanced.Sleep deprivation on the other hand is known to contribute to systemic inflammation, even after a short period of only a couple of weeks, as research has shown. In fact, sleep deprivation is thought to increase all sorts of age-related processes as well as chronic health problems.

Pigmentation - the story continues.

Hyperpigmentation is an umbrella term used to define common skin conditions — including post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), melasma and sun spots — in which patches of skin become darker than the surrounding area. The darkening of the skin results from an excess in melanin — the natural pigment that determines skin, hair and eye colour — and frequently appears on the face, hands and other parts of the body regularly exposed to sunlight.

SPF is by far the most important skin treatment.

Latest News – May 16, 2021

SPF is by far the most important skin treatment.

SPF is by far the most important skin treatment. Broad Spectrum SPF,  has an SPF of 30 or higher. , which means the sunscreen protects against UVB and UVA rays and helps prevent skin cancer and sunburn.  Sunlight consists of two types of harmful rays that reach the earth — UVA rays and UVB rays. Overexposure to either can lead to skin cancer. In addition to causing skin cancer, here’s what each of these rays do:UVA rays (or ageing rays) can prematurely age your skin, causing wrinkles and age spots, and can pass through window glass.UVB rays (or burning rays) are the primary cause of sunburn and are blocked by window glass. On the label, you’ll see whether the sunscreen:Is Broad Spectrum, which means the sunscreen protects against UVB and UVA rays and helps prevent skin cancer and sunburn.Has an SPF of 30 or higher. While SPF 15 is the FDA's minimum recommendation for protection against skin cancer and sunburn, the AAD recommends choosing a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.Has a Skin Cancer/Skin Aging Alert in the Drug Facts section of the label, which means the sunscreen will only prevent sunburn and will not reduce the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging. Is Water Resistant (effective for up to 40 minutes in water) or Very Water Resistant (effective for up to 80 minutes in water). This means the sunscreen provides protection while swimming or sweating up to the time listed on the label.Sunscreen manufacturers are banned from claiming that a sunscreen is "waterproof" or "sweat proof," as the FDA has determined that those terms are misleading.Even when using a water-resistant sunscreen, you should reapply after getting out of the water or sweating.   https://www.nualawoulfe.ie/collections/skinceuticals/products/advanced-brightening-uv-defence-spf-50 https://www.nualawoulfe.ie/collections/skinceuticals/products/skinceuticals-mineral-radiance-uv-defense-spf-50-50ml https://www.nualawoulfe.ie/collections/skinceuticals/products/skinceuticals-sheer-mineral-uv-defense-spf-50-50ml https://www.nualawoulfe.ie/collections/skinceuticals/products/skinceuticals-mineral-matte-uv-defense-spf-30-30ml https://www.nualawoulfe.ie/products/skinceuticals-ultra-facial-defense-spf-50-very-high-protection-30ml?_pos=2&_sid=edcd17f3c&_ss=r
