Treating your neck!

Protect the skin on your neck! Use SPF daily . Avoid sunburn and excessive sun exposure.  Moisturise your neck skin and décolletage, drink plenty of water, eat a healthy diet filled with antioxidants and vitamins. Treatments .    Profhilo is an injectable hyaluronic acid treatment for skin laxity on the face, neck, or hands, offering intense hydration and tighter, more luminous skin. Some call it the injectable skin glow! This anti-ageing treatment contains higher concentrations of hyaluronic acid than dermal fillers, with 64mg of HA per injection. Unlike a dermal filler treatment, Profhilo does not give volume, it instead provides a slow release of hyaluronic acid below the skin surface to hydrate and rejuvenate.   This “super skin booster” not only hydrates your skin from the inside out, getting rid of any crepey-ness, it increases your collagen and elastin production like nothing else I know, actually remodelling your skin, making it look far firmer. Profhilo has the following unique abilities: It stimulates your body to produce 4 types of collagen (good collagen, not scar collagen) It enhances stem cell reproduction meaning your skin rejuvenates It restores both skin and fat layers to their natural state (it doesn’t enhance them, so do not worry, you won’t look puffed up!) It can treat the face, neck, lip lines, arms, decolletage, hands and tummies.    SkinCeuticals Tripeptide-R Retinol. A daily retinol cream specifically formulated exclusively for the neck, SkinCeuticals Tripeptide-R Retinol Neck Repair Cream improves the appearance of wrinkles, loss of firmness, uneven skin tone and crepiness.

Free radicals- what are they ?

Latest News – June 13, 2022

Free radicals- what are they ?

Free radicals  are naturally-occurring, unstable and highly reactive molecules that latch onto and steal electrons, such as healthy cells, ultimately causing a breakdown in DNA of the skin. External factors trigger and increase their production. More often than not, the damaged cells are those responsible for the natural production of collagen, elastic and hyaluronic acid—all of which form skin’s structure and firmness—and the depletion of this can lead to signs of ageing like fine lines, sagging, dullness and even pigmentation. Just think of a cut apple that’s been left out in the air—that wrinkled discolouration is a result of oxidation caused by free radicals. And the same effects can happen to our skin.

Lipids such as Cholesterol, Essential fatty acids and Ceramides and their role in ageing skin.

Essential fatty acids, Ceramides and Cholesterol are all naturally occurring lipids in the correct ratio in healthy skin. Lipids are the good fats in your skin that make it look healthy and young; as you age, your skin loses them, causing dullness, dryness, and wrinkles. These healthy fats play a critical role in maintaining a healthy functioning skin barrier. The skin barrier is Crucial for this skin barrier function is the lipid matrix in the outermost layer of the skin, the stratum corneum.

Acne-Rosacea

Latest News – January 11, 2021

Acne-Rosacea

Acne Rosacea -Rosacea is a complex skin condition , with inflammatory triggers, in which environmental factors can interfere negatively or positively in its evolution.   Our skin barrier can be disrupted due to many possible reasons. When it’s damaged the tight junctions between the skin cells are lost. This allows external irritants to get in our skin a lot easier and lead to more water leaving our skin, leading to a dry tight feeling. Damaged skin barrier is characterised by an easily irritated, dehydrated and flaky skin, red skin. Improving the skin barrier function can significantly reduce symptoms, plus reduce inflammation. Up to 30% of rosacea sufferers have a family history of the condition leading researchers to believe it involves as yet unidentified genes, and for some, this is an inherited condition.

What can be done to slow the ageing process?

Latest News – January 02, 2021

What can be done to slow the ageing process?

We start losing collagen from the age of 20, starting the creation of lines and wrinkles. Healthy skin reflects overall health, and poor nutrition can contribute to factors that accelerate skin ageing.Environmental factors such as ultraviolet radiation, pollution, nutrition and stress, play a key role in the way we age. Research also suggests that a diet rich in sugar contributes to the loss of collagen in the tissues as the result of a process known as glycation, which can destroy collagen. Smoking kills vitamin C and in turn damages collagen.

Most recently, it has been proven and used for aesthetic and wellbeing applications such as speeding up wounds, aiding in lymphatic drainage post-surgically, reducing bruising, healing acne lesions, and controlling rosacea. We utilise PEMF in our Radio Frequency treatments .Radio-Frequency (RF) energy is a form of electromagnetic energy ranging from 300MHz to 3kHz. Radio-frequency has been used surgically for over 50 years for coagulation. It became popular in cosmetic medicine around the year 2000 and since has grown to be the gold standard non-surgical solution in skin tightening and tissue rejuvenation.

The benefits of Hyaluronic acid serums for wrinkles and skin ageing.

Latest News – December 01, 2020

The benefits of Hyaluronic acid serums for wrinkles and skin ageing.

So why do we need to add it to our skin if its already produced by the body? Put simply, hyaluronic acid is a molecule with a short life cycle, so 30-50% of it degrades every 24 hours. We also see a natural decline in our natural hyaluronic acid levels as we age. This starts to decrease in our 20s, accelerating further as we reach our 40s. These two factors combined can contribute to signs of ageing including dryness, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin texture, loss of firmness, and the appearance of loss of facial fullness. Adding hyaluronic acid topically with a serum can help to address these issues by topping up the natural hyaluronic acid that we have lost. HA Intensifier read more

Antioxidants help to protect against Free Radical damage.

Latest News – May 03, 2020

Antioxidants help to protect against Free Radical damage.

Free radicals are unstable molecules that can cause damage to our cells. What makes them unstable is that they are missing electrons from their outer shell. This causes them to search for other atoms or molecules that have these electrons, in order for them to feel whole again and become stable. Due to their reactive nature, free radicals can wreak havoc on your skin and other cells in their quest to find an electron and feel whole again. In order to stabilise themselves, free radicals try to bond to other atoms or molecules.

T’is the Season for Glistening Skin

T’is the Season for Glistening Skin

IPL Photo Facial. Also known as  Photo Rejuvenation?  The Photo Rejuvenation procedure, also known as a Photo Facial, is a series of intense light pulses (IPL) that are absorbed by abnormally enlarged vessels or pigmentation as they make way through the skin’s surface. The heat of the light pulses weakens the enlarged vessels or lesions which triggers normal healing progression. Lesions can form and will darken before being absorbed by the body or flaking off. This process causes no damage to the skin.   The Photo Rejuvenation Treatment The area to be treated is prepared by cleansing and applying a water-based gel. We will always patch test you in the area of treatment first to assure that your skin is ok with the treatment.  We cool the area first using a cool handpiece. The pulses of light (IPL) are then distributed to the treatment area varying from 15 to 45 minutes. At the completion of the photo facial procedure, the gel is removed from the skin and purified.  We cool the area of treatment as we go. A cool compress may be applied to the area after the photo facial to sooth sensitive skin. Daily activities can be resumed immediately following a Photo Facial Procedure, with a few pieces of advice.   Frequency of the Treatment  The number of treatments required varies from patient to patient. Significant improvements may be seen after 2 to 3 treatments; however, 5 treatments are normally recommended for best possible results. Clients achieve a high level of satisfaction following photo facial procedure recommendations seeing from 70% to 90 % improvement toward more even toned, smoother skin.   Are there side effects from a Photo Rejuvenation Procedure?  Although side effects are rare it is IMPORTANT  that prior to a photo facial, exposure to the sun be AVOIDED FOR AT LEAST FOUR weeks before and after treatment. Treatment can affect capillaries making them more visible, pigmentation may appear darker and the skin may look flushed. These side effects would be visible directly following treatment. Temporary swelling and/or blistering may occur but is very rare.  Who should consider the Photo Rejuvenation procedure?  If you are suffering from: Rosacea, Flushing, Age spots, Sun damaged skin, Photo Ageing, Mild acne scars, Large Pores, Dark Circles around the eyes and Fine lines.  Photo Facials leads to restoration of even-toned, smoother looking skin.  Photo Rejuvenation and Rosacea?  Rosacea is a skin condition which causes redness and flushing of the skin.  Common causes of rosacea include: Exposure to the sun, Alcohol consumption, Ageing, Stress and Medication  The Photo Rejuvenation Procedure reduces the flushed appearance of the skin which minimises the necessity for antibiotics and other treatments for redness. For best results a combination of topical skincare and the IPL work best. The IPL stimulates collagen which in time strengthen the skin keeping the redness away from the surface of the skin.  Our photo rejuvenation procedure, also known as a Photo Facial, is a series of intense light pulses that stimulate collagen production and improves the appearance of skin imperfections.
