SkinCeuticals - C E Ferulic 30ml

External factors account for approximately 90% of perceived skin ageing – including wrinkles, roughness, mottled pigmentation (age spots) and loss of elasticity. These external factors include, but are not limited to, smoking, UV light, stress, environment and pollution. These external factors are called free radicals. Free radicals are another contributing factor of skin ageing. These are parts of molecules (e.g. oxygen molecules) that are found in the body. As a result of external factors, like ultraviolet radiation, nicotine or unhealthy food, the free radicals become prone to react. This means that they are constantly looking for other chemical substances to bond with. Hence, they attack the collagen fibres, cellular membrane and lipid layer of the skin. Free radicals change the inherited properties stored in the cell nucleus, so that the quality of newly formed skin cells deteriorates.

Everything you Need to Know About Retinol

Retinol, better known as vitamin A, is great for your skin. It is recognised as the gold standard in anti ageing – backed by numerous scientific papers.  Retinol is found in over-the-counter skincare products (for example in the form of retinyl palmitate) and in products you need a prescription to buy. Pure retinol is usually more effective than retinol derivatives. Products prescribed by a doctor that contain retinol (also called retinoids) contain more active properties and are therefore more effective. But they do increase the risk of skin irritation.

Scented Candles and Diffusers Safety.

Product and Treatment Education – July 23, 2023

Scented Candles and Diffusers Safety.

Scented Candles and Diffusers Safety.     Do not allow diffuser oil to spill or drip on to fabric, or painted surfaces- wood - work top surfaces- floors. Staining or damage may occur. Place diffuser bottle on a coaster. Do not swallow diffuser oil liquid. Avoid liquid contact with eyes or skin. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water if it occurs. If you are asthmatic or suffer with COPD scented candles and diffusers may not be for you.   How do you use scented candles safely? When burning candles, follow these safety rules: Keep burning candles within sight. Read and follow the manufacturer's use and safety instructions. Only use candles in a well-ventilated room. Don't burn a candle all the way to the bottom of the container. Scent is tied to memory, and aromatherapy has been proven to affect mood, so it’s no surprise that a candle with a certain smell can create a sense of nostalgia and promote relaxation. Unfortunately, any time you use an open flame or heat source for an extended period, you put your safety at risk. Follow these tips to make sure the memories related to your favourite smells always stay good.   Burn time. It’s true that scents can be relaxing, but it’s important to be aware and alert when burning candles. One hour of burning is sufficient to allow a pleasant lingering scent. The maximum burn time is four hours. Let the candle come to room temperature before relighting. If you’re using candles to create ambiance or to help you relax or to sleep, it’s wise to consider a safer alternative, like flameless candles or scented oil diffusers. Or meet both needs at once by using a wall plug-in air freshener that includes a built-in nightlight. Place candle on a coaster to protect the surfaces from heat damage.

The Benefits of Niacinamide, a Form of Vitamin B3.

Niacinamide works with your skin's natural chemistry to improve overall skin texture by rebuilding a lipid layer, minimising the appearance of pores, and preventing UV damage and inflammation as an antioxidant. A form of vitamin B3, niacinamide is also believed to reduce redness, discolouration, and even acne, Nicotinamide is an essential water-soluble vitamin, which is not synthesised in the body, meaning we have to eat it to receive its benefits. Additionally, the vitamin has been incorporated into skincare products as our bodies don't produce it on their own. Therefore, if we want to reap the brightening benefits of nicotinamide, it needs to be ingested via supplement or applied topically to the skin.

RETINOL VS RETINOID: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

Retinol and retinoids are both derivatives of vitamin A – the clinically proven star ingredient revered for the way it accelerate cellular turnover and tackles ageing signs, acne and discolouration.  Retinoid is a term used to describe any product that derives from vitamin A, while retinol is one, of many, types of retinoid.
