Arianna Huffington learned the hard way as to what happens when you do not take care of your own well-being and ignore the symptoms of burnout .Two years after creating ‘The Huffington Post’ , she collapsed, breaking her cheekbone and requiring four stitches by her right eye due to severe exhaustion and burnout.
Burnout is a medical disorder that is the result of excessive and prolonged stress. The term was first coined in the 1970s by psychologist Herbert Freudenberger. Later Christina Maslach became well known for her research on occupational workout.
Arianna Huffington went on to set up “Thrive Global” to raise awareness, and encourage people to change behaviour. According to neuroscience research, she said, it takes about 60 to 90 seconds to course correct when you feel stress coming on . She noted, however, that it's important to take these steps not just when you feel stressed, but also at the start and end of the day. To resist the temptation to keep working late into the night, turn off your cellphone and charge it outside your bedroom. If you can't do that every night, start with one night a week. Then, in the morning, take 60 seconds to decide what you might want from your day.
