The Aesthetic Consultation: Where it All Begins

The Aesthetic Consultation: Where it All Begins

The Aesthetic Consultation: Where it All Begins

For men and women who have never had the experience of an aesthetic treatment before, coming to a clinic can be daunting especially when they have no idea what to ask for. Please do not let this put you off. The goal of aesthetics is to allow you to continue to look and feel like yourself but renewed refreshed and enhanced. Good aesthetic medicine will help you achieve these goals within your price range, or, if that is not possible, will advise you so!

The most important part of aesthetics is, and always will be, the consultation. Any aesthetic doctor will begin by asking you what has brought you to the clinic today. This is not a trick question. When I ask you this, I am trying to understand what your goals are, what your values are, and what outcome you want to achieve. All too often clients have deep-seated negative associations with certain treatment types, for example when I say filler some will gasp and say I don't want to look like those folks on Love Island. But good filler is the filler that isn’t ‘noticeable’ to onlookers.

Some clients will want to focus on loss of volume or that they don't like when certain areas of their face ‘bunch up’ and move when they smile or laugh. Some clients will tell me that they feel their skin is becoming dry, or they would like to improve the appearance of dark circles under the eyes, or that the texture of their skin is changing over time and they would like to know what can be done for each of these concerns.

During our consult I am simultaneously assessing their face, their bone structure, their skin texture, their profile and of course the areas of concern. This then allows me to create a treatment plan in line with the clients’ specific goals.

Oftentimes, clients will come to the clinic asking for a particular treatment but after our assessment we discover that this treatment will not target the areas they think it might and instead a different treatment plan altogether may need to be considered. This is OK and is how we build trust in the process and how we make sure that you get the outcome that clients will be comfortable with.

I always aim to educate patients on the different options that are available, the risks and benefits, and the alternatives which sometimes includes no treatment at all. I will never pressure a patient into proceeding with a treatment, nor will I ever be annoyed/ upset/ insulted/ or otherwise negatively affected if a client declines to proceed with a treatment.

My priorities in my aesthetics practice are patient safety and natural results. If I don’t believe I can complete a treatment safely for a client, or if it won’t look natural or isn’t right for a clients face, I simply will not do it.

If you are curious about how I could help you look and feel your best, book in for a consultation and we can start from the very beginning.
