SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF with Ferulic acid
Vitamin C serum for use in the morning only under a broad-spectrum SPF.
A patented daytime vitamin c antioxidant face serum that delivers advanced environmental protection and diminishes the appearance of fine lines and discolouration. U.S. Patent No. 9,248,082.
In the morning after cleansing and toning, apply 4-5 drops to a dry face, neck, and chest before other skincare products on clean dry skin. It is normal for vitamin C products to darken after opening due to air and light exposure. The formula will remain effective.
Phloretin is derived from apples and the root bark of fruit trees including apple, pear, and grapefruit, this antioxidant neutralises damaging free radicals, helps improve cell turnover, and improves the appearance of discolouration.
Atmospheric aggressors surround us on a daily basis, posing a constant threat to healthy-looking skin, because they induce free radical formation that may damage cells.
Superficially, this damage visibly manifests as premature lines, wrinkles, sagging, and unwanted discolouration.
Skin discoloration is the result of excess melanin, natural pigment that gives colour to skin, often caused by chronic UV exposure, hormonal fluctuations, past acne blemishes, and natural ageing. Combat skin discoloration with SkinCeuticals products that are clinically proven to reduce the appearance of discolouration by exfoliating dead skin cells and protecting the skin from environmental damage caused by free radicals and UV exposure.
SkinCeuticals Discolouration Defence is a layer able, daily-use serum formulated with 3% tranexamic acid, 5% niacinamide, and 5% HEPES. This clinically-proven formula improves the look of discolouration, brightens skin, and evens skin tone in as early as 2 weeks.
Recently, new studies have shown that topical formulations featuring tranexamic acid have a demonstrated effect on discolouration, including hard-to-treat forms such as post-acne marks and dark patches.
Featured in Discolouration Defence, this powerful ingredient helps improve the appearance of discolouration.
To understand how tranexamic acid helps brighten skin, it is important to understand why skin discoloration occurs in the first place. Everyday elements—including UV exposure, prescription drugs, and some professional treatments—can trigger the skin discoloration process by activating inflammatory mediators within the skin. This results in a chain reaction that causes skin to produce melanin, the naturally-occurring pigment that gives skin its colour. While the purpose of melanin is protective, when produced in excess, it can form deposits in the skin that manifest as dark patches, isolated spots, or an overall darker facial appearance.
Tranexamic acid is a potent ingredient that helps reduce the appearance of discolouration and improves the look of stubborn brown spots, resulting in an overall brighter appearance.
In a 12-week clinical study, Discolouration Defence significantly improved the appearance of key skin discolouration markers:
1. 60% average improvement in the appearance of stubborn brown patches
2. 59% average improvement in the appearance of skin discoloration
3. 81% average improvement in the appearance of post-acne marks
4. 59% average improvement in the appearance of even skin tone
In a new 12-week study on deeper skin tones (Fitzpatrick V-VI), twice-daily application of Discolouration Defence demonstrated a statistically-significant reduction in the appearance of discolouration, post-inflammatory discolouration, and even skin tone.
34% reduction in post-blemish marks at 12 weeks
Protocol: Average results shown. A 12-week, single-centre, clinical study was conducted on 50 females, ages 25 to 60, Fitzpatrick I-IV, with mild to moderate facial skin discolouration, including stubborn dark spots, post-acne marks, and uneven skin tone. Discolouration Defence was applied to the face twice a day in conjunction with a sunscreen. Efficacy and tolerability evaluations were conducted at baseline and at weeks 2, 4, 8, and 12.
